Trying to move wordpress.com blog to a new host using www.ads-software.com

  • Hey everyone, maybe this has been covered, but I have been looking all day and can’t seem to find a fix.

    I have a blog on wordpress.com and I just got webhosting through GoDaddy and now and running my WordPress.com blog on my own website thru www.ads-software.com. My problem is, I am exported the XML file from WordPress and I am trying to import it into my hosted database. However, when I do that, it imports a portion of the file and stops. Then, when I try to re-import it, nothing happens. I have tried deleting the file and re exporting it. I have gone as far as deleting the database itself and reinstalling the entire site. It seems to always stop at the same place.

    Some stats, I am running a Linix Hosted site through GoDaddy. The file is about 2.4 meg (yes, I even tried to break it up.). Is there anything I can do to get it loaded up? I even tried to import it through MyPHPAdmin, but that didn’t work either.

    Yes & WordPress.com. Go Daddy had no answer and WordPress.com said it is on www.ads-software.com’s end.

    Unlike wp.com, I do not see a link to email support about this.

    If there is a way to email them, let me know, but if anyone can help me with this, I would appreciate it.

    On your new WordPress site, have you tried Dashboard -> Manage -> Import -> WordPress?

    Yes. Only a certain amount of files come over. All the tags and catagories do as well.

    It will take me a while to respond to other solutions but I do appreciate the help.

    it is not working.

    It seems to always stop at the same place.

    With the coding, I cannot tell. All I know is, not all of it loading. Only 15 or so entries of 365.

    .. you said you tried to break it up, but you didn’t say what happened with that. Did you succeed in breaking the file up, or not?

    if you cannot get the whole file to import, than you may need to break it up, and do it in smaller pieces. That will also give you the opportunity to see if its choking on something in particular.

    What’s happening is when we import it the first time into the empty database, it only goes part way then stops. After that, no matter how small the file is, it no longer imports. Once we start it, it asks to assign the user, and then it gets to the next page, takes 30 seconds to load and then doesn’t import anything. So basically, after that first failed import, it won’t import again.

    Perhaps the exported file is corrupted. Have you tried exporting again and then importing the new file?

    I have tried exporting & importing multiple times to no avail.

    Have yo tried clearing the new DB, then importing the first entries in small increments to se where it stops ?

    Perhaps you have a post that somehow got some kind of invalid characters that the new DB doesn’t “like”

    I have tried that. I broke it into multiple files and multiple users. It almost seems like after a certain point, it all times out and won’t download anything else from there. The weird thing though, is when we try to import again, either the same XML file or a different one, it doesn’t do anything. It’s almost as if once the first import breaks, I can no longer import anything else until I delete and recreate the database.
