    Hi there,
I am working on setting up a Mailchimp template and have this plugin installed. I’ve been working with a Mailchimp template designer and on Mailchimp chat support for hours, and we cannot seem to solve the issue, so I wanted to check if it is related to the plugin.

Basically any time we use *|RSSITEM:IMAGE|* tag it completely scales the entire email when viewed on mobile in Gmail. So for example, the entire email scales tiny, including all the footer info, everything. This only happens with the image tag present. We even spent time on support chat removing everything but the image tag, and it still scales. As soon as we remove it, everything always works fine.

We even tried unchecking the “Resize RSS images to fit template” option in Mailchimp with no change.

I’m not blaming it on you, but do you think it is related? Is there some code that could be added to solve it? I am using it with the Divi theme posting regular blog posts and using the featured image.

    Hi @nelsonleemiller,

Unfortunately, it’s not related to the plugin ?? The plugin doesn’t generate any kind of markup, and therefore, can’t break anything. It just provides more data which can be used (or not) by Mailchimp. In your case, the image might be too big, too small, or your Mailchimp template might have an issue. The answer is definitely in your Maiclhimp account ?? You should try to fix a size (or a maximum size) in the HTML/CSS of your template, and that should do it.

Alternatively, you can force a smaller image to be picked by my plugin. You’ll find how to do this in the description of it.

    Alright.

I argued with Mailchimp support for 3 weeks about this and they insist it is related to the source, and they kept mentioning the plugin. Here is some of what they have been saying:

“The issue, as we’ve been discussing is not with the layout of the email itself, however the featured image’s size that is being inserted by the *|RSSITEM:IMAGE|* merge tag.”

“The Mailchimp application is functioning as expected with regard to properly pulling information from your feed into the campaign. While not ideal in this case, it is expected and documented behavior for the *|RSSITEM:IMAGE|* to not have image sizes constrained once pulled into the campaign. As the image size issues are due to how the image is being formatted on your feed, we are unable to credit for that.”

I guess I feel like with millions of users of WordPress and Mailchimp…I would not be the only person in the world trying to do this, and I feel very confused. If it’s not related to you, then I thank you for your help. If you have any great ideas, I would be truly grateful.

If they don’t want to help on the maximum display size, you will need to use the snippet I mentioned, which is in the description. It might be the only way ??
