• Hi all,

I’m in a tricky situation. I received word from my hosting service that my directory contained malicious files. They would not let me access the WordPress login to make a proper backup so I was only able to download all the content through FTP and export the MySQL database from my hosting service. I then had to delete all the files in my WordPress directory through my FTP.
I am wondering what the best way to get my WordPress site back up and running to how it was before. Is it possible to just re upload those old “wp-admin”, “wp-content”, “wp-includes”, etc folders/files and the database and have it pretty much looking the same. And if so how do I go about that.

    Thanks in advance!

Get clean copies of the themes, plugins, and wordpress itself from www.ads-software.com and replace all the files you uploaded. Keep only wp-config.php and wp-content/uploads (after checking for malicious stuff). Upload that and then create a new database and import your mysql dump. That’s the best way to do a “clean and safe” restore.

Sorry for the nooby question, but do you mind running me through the file replacement a bit more step by step. Thanks

You already have the directory structure because you downloaded it, so you need to retain the structure but remove the files (other than those in wp-content/uploads) and replace them with files from www.ads-software.com. Once you have that all done, you can FTP it back to your host. You need to assume every .php file you downloaded is contaminated.

Do you know the best way to “clean” or scan those php files?

I do, but unless YOU know PHP really well, it’s not going to work. So, assume they’re all bad. Delete them and use clean, safe files.

@nojank if you still need help, please let me know and I’ll give you more details on how you could clean your installation and bring back online your website. I see the post is pretty old so most probably you already solved this issue. I’ll follow this thread so let me know if you still need help!
