    Hi all,

I’m in a bit of a tricky situation. Basically I signed up for a domain name to be hosted by WordPress, but now want to use a different host – the reason being you are limited to what you can do with the basic £15/yr WordPress package (i.e can’t install plugins etc.).

So I have requested a transfer to a hosting site, but I later found out you can’t transfer a domain name within 60 days of registration. Is there a way around this, or will I have to wait?

If so, what can I do in the meantime to build a website? I don’t want to put my website building on hold for 60 days and do nothing – so do I carry on and make a basic wordpress site in wordpress? Or is there a way to start making one now in my new host via the wordpress 1-click install plugin but maybe with a slightly different domain name that I can redirect to my original domain name when I finally get that up and running on the new host?

I am very new to website building and wordpress, so please let me know if I am misunderstanding anything here.
    Thanks.

That’s actually a limitation imposed by The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), essentially they’re “the law” when it comes to domain registrars, so there is no way for any registrar to get around it.

I assume you mean you registered the domain at WordPress.com (www.ads-software.com is not a domain registrar)? If so, you can simply direct the domain to your new hosting provider for now following the guide at https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/

Also, to clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and www.ads-software.com are two different entities: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com

WordPress.com has complete documentation and support contacts at https://support.wordpress.com/

    ok thanks James,

Yes i registered the domain at wordpress.com under the basic £15/yr package which doesn’t let you install plugins (i realise now that www.ads-software.com is separate!).

So when you say i can redirect my domain to a new hosting provider – will this give me the ability to install plugins?
The reason being that looking at wordpress website tutorials on the internet, a lot of them use plugins, which i am unable to use on my basic wordpress package – this is why i want to be able to move to a new host to be able to use the plugins.

    Thanks.

Yes, you’re just pointing the domain to a hosting provider where you can install and host WordPress yourself, and therefore use plugins. ??
