    HI,

I am trying to upgrade the plugin to the latest version. Have currently 4.3.2 and when I click on Update Now it tries to update and then says :

Update Failed: The update cannot be installed because we will be unable to copy some files. This is usually due to inconsistent file permissions.

Do I have to disable this plugin before upgrading it ?

I’m assuming it is the plugin security that is possibly causing it NOT to upgrade.

Any suggestions or do I disable then upgrade ?

I have no issues with file permissions as I have regular backups taking place etc. What do I have to look out for to allow me to upgrade this ?

    URGENT

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Kristin

Hi Kristin, if you are 100% sure it is not a file permission then try the following.

-Download the latest version to your computer/ laptop.
-FTP into your site and rename the plugin folder to something different.
-Login into your site and upload the latest version from your computer/ laptop and install the plugin.
-If everything goes well you will have the latest version installed. If this is the case you can delete the old renamed version.
-If it does not work then you have an issue in your site/ server and you need to investigate further. In that case simply rename the old plugin folder that you renamed earlier to it’s original name. This will at least allow you to keep running version 4.3.2 until you find out what is causing this issue in your site.

Let me know if they above helps you in any way.

    Kind regards

    THanks, I will try this.

Also with regards to file permissions I haven’t set anything up for that unless the Hosting server has.

What area will I be checking to double check the file permissions ?

There are a lot of areas to check and I don’t know where to start , which would be responsible for the error ?

    Thanks

Hi Kristin, speak to your host. They should be able to point you in the right direction. And or help you to check and make sure your file permissions are correct.

Let me know how you go.

    Regards

    Will do

Can you point me in the right direction on what files to look at in the backend in the meantime for me to check.

The hosting people are a bit difficult with this particular client

Every question I ask to the Hosting gets relayed back to the client and she has a heart attack thinking something majorly is wrong. It’s a pain.

It’s only a minor issue but will be taken out of context.

I will try your steps above in the meantime.

If I FTP and upload new version then I have to recreate all the settings again.

    THnaks

Hi Kristin, if you upload a new version it should ask you if you want to restore the previous settings. Say yes when you are asked.

However just to be safe, create a backup. Just in case something goes wrong.

    Hi

I rang them in the end.

They couldn’t find out what the permission issue was at all. They tried everything.

In the end, we had to rename the plugin via FTP or File Manager
Maybe it didn’t like updating to the same directory name ? Any known issues ?

    Then update the plugin
That was the only way around it.

    Any other suggestions ?

    Thanks

    Hi,

I guess something like that can happen from time to time.

    Any known issues ?

None that I am aware of.

    Any other suggestions ?

None, what you did was probably the best solution for your issue. The old directory in the server might have been corrupted. However I am not a server expert.

I am marking this thread as resolved. If you need more help with something else, please open up a new support thread.

    Enjoy the plugin.

    Kind regards
