For some reason, we are having issues with our Time To First Byte(TTFB) score on GTMetrix. When we first enabled the plugin on the site it worked great at cutting our TTFB down by almost a full second. After a couple of weeks, we ran another report and saw that our TTFB was back up to around a second.

We tried clearing the cache from the plugin and running the report again with no success. The only thing that works is completely deleting all folders related to WP Super Cache from our file system and reinstalling the plugin. We’ve had to do this process twice now over the last few months.

Do you have any suggestions on what might be causing a build-up that would be resolved by reinstalling the plugin?

Did you have a lot of cached pages when the TTFB reduced? I can’t imagine that would slow things down but if your disk is (very) slow it might.

You could enable debugging in the plugin to track what it does but that will introduce further delays you’ll have to take into consideration when testing.

The site in question is on a dedicated server that is much larger than what we need so I don’t think it is a problem with disk speed.

I’ve turned on debugging but it takes a few days for the problem to show up. I’ll try to remember to update this thread if I can find anything in the logs.

This may or may not be related to this issue. I’ve noticed that every day when I log in and go to Settings -> WP Super Cache I see a warning message saying
    “WP_CACHE constant added to wp-config.php
If you continue to see this warning message please see point 5 of the Troubleshoot Guide. The WP_CACHE line must be moved up.”

The WP_CACHE definition line in wp-config.php is the second line down, directly under define( ‘WPCACHEHOME’, ‘{path_url}/wp-content/plugins/wp-super-cache/’ ); Should I switch the order of those 2 variables?

When I refresh the message goes away and I don’t see it for the rest of the day. I notice that when I see this message the cache is also cleared even though I never click on Delete Cache.
