    Hello,

    I was just looking at Bing Search Console at it had discovered sitemaps from my staging site.

    Is there a way to put Smart Crawl in a “Staging Site Mode”? ie turn off sitemaps, making all pages non-crawlable…

    Thanks!

    Hi @joshgrisdale

    I hope you’re well today!

    There’s no “staging mode” and technically-speaking SmartCrawl doesn’t know whether it’s working on staging site or live site – it’s “just another site”.

    You can, however, disable sitemaps and indexing on staging site just like on any other site:

    1. go to “SmartCrawl -> Sitemaps -> Settings” page and click on “Deactivate” button at the bottom; this will disable sitemaps

    2. go to “Settings -> Reading” page and check the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” checkbox and save settings (this is core WordPress setting); it should make bots/crawlers not index the site

    3. additionally, you can also set “noindex” and/or “nofollow” option for each post type on “SmartCrawl -> Title & Meta -> Post Types” page, though if step 2 above is applied it shouldn’t really be necessary;

    All these settings are fully reversible and you can change them back at any time.

    Kind regards,
    Adam
