turn off variants on individual products

I am using woo commerce. I sell custom slogan t shirts. I have 20 different sizes and up to 150 different colors and 10 styles. When a client picks a shirt they want, the cart asks them to select a color and size. Because of all the variants each time a T is selected woo wants to create a unique id or sku which is causing 1000’s of possibilities/variants creating horrible page load times.

I want woo not to care what about one color or size over another, I just care that at checkout I know what color and sized they want.

is there a way to add a color and size field on the checkout form and by pass it on the individual product pages
