Thanks, that helped but if I turn off comments on a particular post you can no longer view already posted comments as it says “commens closed”. Is there a way to turn off further posts without it taking away the link to view comments already posted?

You could take out the comment form

not the whole comment template, but just the form for entering and submitting comments….

But that would take away comments from all posts unless I’m misunderstanding what you mean?

Let me try to explain what I want… I’m a TERRIBLE explainer, lol. I want to turn off comments on any given post but still have visitors and myself able to view the comments that were posted before I did so. But I want people to be able to comment on say, the newest post.

I tried a plugin I found a while back that turned comments off after a certain amount of days but #1 it didn’t work and #2 it did the same, closed it altogether so comments couldn’t even be viewed.
