• I sent out a MailPoet newsletter with a Zoom link in it:

    https://zoom.us/j/12345 (not the real link)

In the email that is sent out, the link target is replaced with:

    https://joyfulliving.us/?mailpoet_router&endpoint=track&action=click&data=WyIxIiwiMTZiYzYyIiwiNTMiLCJhMDZkMDZlYWI3M2UiLGZ12345 (not the real link)

When the user clicks on the link in the email, they are sent to the mailpoet_router link above and then forwarded to Zoom.

This introduces an extra unnecessary step, probably violating privacy too, as this email is for a mental health support group Zoom session.

    Questions:
1a) Can I turn off link tracking just by itself, preferably for a specific email? In this particular email, I want the users to just click on the link and go straight to the site.
1b) If (1a) is not possible, can I turn off link tracking temporarily, while keeping Open tracking on?
    2) Where is the link tracking info stored? Does it find its way into the hands of Google or other notorious privacy violators?

This would be interesting to know for us as well. As we even received a bunch of 500-Errors during a test with https://www.mail-tester.com. According to our server support technicians this might be the case due to some problem within the PHP code (of MailPoet and/or the server?).

Currently it seems that a lot of subscribers did not receive the newsletter due to suspected spam.

Our assumption so far is that – with bigger numbers of newsletter subscribers – too many clicks are sent directly to the server in a short amount of time. Where they must be resolved to lead to the final target. We haven’t tracked the error down so far but it would be helpful to just deactivate the feature somewhere.

Thanks for any hints pointing us in the right direction.

    Karl
