Turnstile box disappears when using threaded comments on mobile

Just redesigned the site using the new default WP theme Twenty Twenty-Three, and the the Turnstile checker box works perfectly on desktop, but has an issue on mobile (iOS, not sure about Android). The box works correctly in the comments until you try to reply to another comment, which makes the turnstile box disappear. Sometimes comments can still be posted, but sometimes it gives an error saying you have to prove you’re human. Sometimes the Turnstile box will come back if you click “cancel reply,” but other times it doesn’t. Refreshing the page brings it back, but nested replies may still not work if you try again. I have it set to nest up to 3 levels, but changing to 2 did not fix it. At first I thought it was a width issue, but widening the comment area (decreasing the padding applied by default) did not help. It also works perfectly on a desktop window squeezed to mobile size, so it must have something to do with mobile itself or maybe compatibility with Apple WebKit? I am out of my depth here.
