Turnstile breaks wp-json posts

I have another plugin webmentions that uses wp-json to post comments to my site from mastodon and the webmentions plugin is not able to post to the site when your turnstile plugin is enabled. adding something to check for wp-json would be helpful for wp-json to work since this is not a human but rather web services talking to one another.
