Right now in Twenty Eleven there are three types of page templates – one is a fullwidth (the default one), one is the showcase and the last one has a sidebar. In the later one, the sidebar is same as the blog index page. That means the widget that is displayed in the blog index page, the same widgets are displayed in the sidebar-page template. But I wish to show different types of widgets in the page’s sidebar, so the widgets displayed in the sidebar of the page and the blog index will be different.

How can I do this? Please help me!

BTW… I am using the child theme for the modifications, so feel free to suggest.

  • Sounds like you need to make a new page template calling a new sidebar template, that you populate with custom menus items.

Thanks dragonsjaw! You understood my problem perfectly. And I too understand your solution. But that’s what I was afraid of. ?? I am not familiar with the php codings (infact I am not a programmer or developer). Can anyone please help me to create a page template for displaying new sidebars for Twenty Eleven theme?

    Thanks in advance.

Looks like I’ve found a solution. Thanks Kevin Muldoon for helping me out. If anyone wants to do the same as me, then please follow the instructions here.
