Twenty ten adjustments reset when I installed 3.0.2

Hi everyone. I have a problem with the twenty ten default theme. When I updated to 3.0.2 I lost all of my coding adjustments to the style.css file. Things like side bar and content width. banner width. font style. font size.
How would I prevent this from happening again?
