Twenty-Ten Comments on static page but not blog posts

    I inherited a job on the site unitsmilwaukee.com where I needed to move a WP blog installation to the root directory and create a single static home page. I initially had copied the entire Twenty-Ten style.css file and made a child theme out of it to make the necessary changes (thought I would follow the rules here). I have since deleted the child theme, Twenty-Ten theme and reinstalled the Twenty-Ten.

    I have a static front page – which unfortunately shows the “Leave a Comment” box at the bottom of it.

    My blog page, with existing posts & comments doesn’t show the “Leave a Comment” box. It shows a “Leave a Comment” Link – which when clicked on browses back to the static front page!! I tested leaving a comment by following the link and all comments are linked to the Home / Static page.

    How can I fix this? Is it my file structure messing me up?

  • Go to ADMIN->EDIT page and choose your front page. Now do the little bit scroll down and you will get Discussion section. off the 2 checkboxes and update the page. now check once your site.

    If you are referring to Settings>Reading>Choose Static Front Page – I had that set but rechecked it. I also have selected which page my blog should be on.

    In Settings>Discussion – I have checked the 3rd checkbox down = “Allow people to post comments on new articles”.

    Still, when I click the link on the blog page to leave a comment, the site navigates back to the Home page where the Leave A Comment box is.

    What am I missing?

    I have since been able to remove the comments box from the front page by using the Screen Option panel. The problem that still exists is on the blog page, the “Leave a Comment” link navigates to the front page, it doesn’t open a comments box below the blog post.

    Whether the comments box shows up on the blog post or not depends on how the reader gets there. Any given blog post can have two or three URLs. If you reach it by clicking an archive link or a category link, the URL will have the archive or category info in it (depending on how you use permalinks of course).

    These are not the actual blog-post URL. If you click on the blog title, it will open the blog page and the comments box will be there.
