Twenty-ten menu content vanished

    I use the “twenty ten” theme

    Today I signed on to do some slight editing to my site and I found that the menu’s I had set up had vianished not only from the overhead view but, from the menu set up.

    I am the only one with access to the site, I have also not touched it since my last edit, which was adding some text to one of the pages.

    The menu has been in place for a week or so for now with no previous indications that there was a problem. I had many sub menus in place if that matters.

    I know it is contrary to believe that this happened on it’s own but, I am at a loss as to how such a delayed effect could take place. I realize that since none of the pages are missing, I can remake the menu but, without adressing the cause, this could simply happen again.

    you may try:

    -deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the culprit.

    -switching to the default theme (“twentyten”) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

    I Am using twenty ten already but i can’t log on for personal reasons right now to delete the plugins, i will edit this post when that is tried.

    @kusuriurite, you do not need to delete the plugins. You can just deactivate them. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the culprit.

    I have deleted all my plugins save for:

    The Events Calendar by Shane & Peter, Inc

    which does not seem to be able to be removed via FTP and deleting plugins has never worked via the admin panel.

    550 Can’t remove directory: Directory not empty

    the menu items have not returned, nor do I know if the process will repeat itself. I have put them back manually.

    – try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completelt removed).

    If you edited the header.php file, just overwrite it with the default or compare to see if you accidentally changed something…

    It’s also possible you messed with the custom menu (“menu” tab) and didn’t select the on you want to use. Try building new menus.

    Let us know more – what changes did you make? It’s not always plug-ins, sometimes its even easier…

    I made no changes to any “header” or any other .php file.
    My menu was up for several days before both menus disappeared from the menu list of the custom menu.

    As i said in my first post, I signed on to find my Menu’s deleted.

    The categories and tags are no longer linked to my post. If I log in to my blog on edit mode I can see the tags and the categories, also it says that they are linked to the posts. But if I go to Posts menu there is no category and tag linked to them.

    It happened suddenly yesterday, I haven’t installed anything new.

    Do you have any idea of what could be happening ?

    PS: I have desactivate/activate all the plugins and nothing happened.

    May I suggest that you start your own thread on the subject. It is not too helpful to have two folks problems discussed in the same thread

    Yes I have it done but the problem is still there.

    I think I will categorize and put the tags to all the posts again.
