See the white space right after “Jim”? That’s a no-no and the validator is complaining about it.

Change your account login from Jim Hargodon to something without a space?

There should be a filter to change a space into a %20 (which would then validate just fine) but that does not seem to be happening.

That blog looks sparsely populated so try adding a new account less the space, then delete the old account. WordPress should ask you who do you want to assign the old posts to.

When that happens select the new account. Make sure the new account is setup the same way as the old one. If the old one is an admin, make the new one an admin as well.

Yikes – that sounds serious – I am new and it is a new site – how do I change account – under ‘user’ profile it says username cannot be changed. Thanks.

You can’t change the username without some serious surgery to the database.

But you can create a new user account with the same level of access as the old account, delete the old account (the one with a space in it) and assign the old posts to the new account.

It’s a new site and this will not effect the look, the style, etc. At worse you’ll lose the posts you already set up.

Ok – I don’t like deleting anything – and it will not let me use my name again as user – so I searched around web and followed this video: https://www.francescolanza.com/2007/10/24/password-admin-reset/

and in phpmyadmin – there does not appear to be any spaces before my name – see screenshot below – any ideas on what I should do now. Thank you.

Not before your name. Look at that link, see the user_login field? That has “Jim<space>Hargodon” and that’s what you need to change.

The other field user_nicename is good and should be left alone.

Whew, sorry had to get that out. Seriously, create another account before you play with that table. If you bork that portion you may not be able to log in with your old name.

Well Jan you definitely scared me from going near that phpmyadmin .. so I basically ended up doing what you said earlier – had to make a few moves:
1) set up new administrator user with different name (admin)
2) delete my user account
3) log out and log in as new user
4) set up new user using my original name
5) log out and log in as my original name
6) delete (admin) user and assign posts to my original name

Seems to have worked.
