• I am trying to modify my WordPress twenty thirteen theme to enable custom headers on each section of the website. I can’t seem to find a way to modify the header dimensions appropriately. I have modified the css (.site and .site-header .home-link) and the custom-header.php file to the desired specs (980 px x 250 px). When I upload the correctly sized header image WordPress enlarges the image and crops it. Any ideas? What am I missing here? Do i need to update the function.php file as well?

no. why is WordPress enlarging the header image back to 1600 pixels?
i was able to specify my width in twenty eleven with no problems, and easily. Why do the developers make this such a complicated issue.

    Which custom-header.php file?

That’s how that theme is designed – if you search the forums you’ll see that you’re not the only person who isn’t happy with that limitation. Read the linked page above as to how to change it or use another theme.

Yes I have spent hours reading other comments. It’s very disappointing that I was completely able to create a custom size header in twenty eleven, and utilize different images on each page created. WordPress is supposed to be user friendly, but the design limitations for the basic theme is a bit ridiculous. You would think a custom header would be a no-brainer.

So why are you using that theme? Not every theme will please everyone.

I like the streamlined cleanliness. It’s simple. Do you know if the custom headers plug-in will accomplish what I am hoping to achieve?

As I stated in a new thread that was apparently deleted, I am trying to utilize a new header image on each page of my website. Using the previous “set featured image” in the twenty eleven theme worked perfectly, but that feature does not work in twenty thirteen. when i try to utilize the set featured image it places it above the headline in the content area. any ideas?

Twentyeleven and twentythirteen are totally different themes – they aren’t expected to work the same way at all.
