• Hey all,
Does anyone know when WP might roll out Twenty Twelve? I’ve been thinking of switching a couple of my sites to Twenty Eleven, but now I’m thinking it’s so late in the year, maybe I would want Twenty Twelve anyway? If it’s not for a couple or three months, I would switch now, but if it’s going to be in the next several weeks, then, I’ll wait.
    Thanks!

  • ok i’ve been reading about 20/12 and want to try it on my website and CAN NOT!

it does not show up as an option when I search themes from my website.

the ONLY place i can find it available is as a choice for *starting a blog,”

which is kinda maddening. i don’t do code – & these links to “trunk” are doing a fine job of making me feel stupid….

what am i missing? John Bierly – if i read you right, it is NOT actually available… so how come other places folks are raving about it? Blog only mebbe?

please use words for the unschooled if possible.

    twitchingly yours, j

    It’s not available yet.

    jude42:

    Here’s what I did. I went here:

    https://github.com/thethemefoundry/twentytwelve

… and downloaded the ZIP file near the top of the page (beside the “Clone in Mac” button).

Then, from my site’s Dashboard, I installed the ZIP file just as you’d install any other theme. And BOOM, I’m running Twenty Twelve (Version 0.6) on my website at https://www.johnbierly.com

It’s really that easy. Just download that ZIP file, install it as you’d install any other theme, and you’re good to go. When they release the official version, you can delete Version 0.6 and install the official one.

    jude42,

    Try this:

Go to the CURRENT trunk of the entire WordPress file:

    https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/browser/trunk

Download the zip archive at the very bottom of the page.
Extract the entire file somewhere on you computer.
    Delete the zip file.
Open the extracted file and open WP Content, and then Themes.
Right click the TwentyTwelve file and zip it into a separate file.
Upload the zipped TwentyTwelve file through your website’s Admin Panel.
    Activate the Theme.

Delete the entire downloaded WP file from your computer. The current WordPress version 3.5 is only 1/2 completed.

I don’t know of any way to update this “version” of Twenty Twelve, UNLESS you install the nightly build version on your server. If you do that, I believe that Twenty Twelve is now included in it. I tried that but my navigation menus wouldn’t display, so I went back to WordPress 3.4.2. I’m happy with that.

esmi has been correct in noting that Twenty Twelve is still in beta as far as www.ads-software.com usage is concerned.

Thanks to shapeshifter3 I successfully installed twentytwelve on my self-hosted blog. Does anyone know how to remove the gray border around the header image? And how to move the menu under the header? Thanks in advance for your help.

Actually is it possible to delete the whole shadow border effect for header image AND the body? Thanks again for your help.

    @ac09

it might be better if you start your own topic, and post a link to your site.

For those that are wanting to download the latest version of Twenty Twelve to play with, instead of downloading the ZIP from Trac, I recommend just using Subversion instead:

    maxx(adam)$ svn co https://core.svn.www.ads-software.com/trunk/wp-content/themes/twentytwelve
    A twentytwelve/content-image.php
    … snip …
    A twentytwelve/header.php
    Checked out revision 21852.

and then you can easily get any updates later by changing into your twentytwelve directory and running this commend:

    maxx(adam)$ cd twentytwelve

    maxx(adam)$ svn update
    At revision 21852.

    got it, yay!

but now the black menu bar has disappeared – everything is there in a long list under a little centered box called “menu.”

i don’t know why none of my structure survived – the header was gone, etc…

& i don’t mind re-doing stuff, but HOW? Can’t find anywhere to get that black menu bar back.

There is a terrific forum page that whizzed by somewhere else that gave a great run-down of how to structure menus- something i had to learn through trial and infinite error. I wanted to aske this question there, but i can’t find that exact forum.

thanks for whatever help you can give.

@jude42, is it possible you were viewing in a narrow browser window (or on a mobile device)? From what I understand, Twenty Twelve is built as a responsive theme, and it sounds like you’re seeing a compact version of the menu that’s swapped in when the viewport is too narrow for the full horizontal menu bar.
