• I created a child theme today for the twentyeleven theme, but when I activated it, it looks totally different from the parent theme.

    Using TextEdit on my Mac, I created a file name style.css with the following:

    /*
    Theme Name: Twenty Eleven Child
    Description: Child theme for the Twenty Eleven theme
    Author: Lauren
    Template: twentyeleven
    Version: 0.1.0
    */

    @import url(“../twenteleven/style.css”);

    I then created the child folder within the themes directory and added my file to it. My site address is: https://www.healthylikelauren.com

    Any thoughts on why it looks so weird?

  • You spelled the import URL wrong:

    @import url(“../twenteleven/style.css”);

    It should be:

    /*
    Theme Name:     Twenty Eleven Child
    Theme URI:      https://example.com/
    Description: Child theme for the Twenty Eleven theme
    Author:         Your name here
    Author URI:     https://example.com/about/
    Template:       twentyeleven
    Version:        0.1.0
    */

    @import url("../twentyeleven/style.css");
