TwentySixteen Theme – Limit category list to parent?

  • Our site has some posts that are listed in more than 1 category, eg. Events (parent) & Skateboarding (sub category)

    Can anyone help me so the standard entry-footer displays only the parent category like this on the single post display:
    July 8th / Events

    Instead of this:
    July 8th / Events, Skateboarding..
