    Hello,

I just had a site developed and we use the Events Calendar plugin. I had set up many events and about a week after launching the site, all the events disappeared. I had to call my web hosting company to ask them to restore the previous day’s backup.

This happened again the other day but seemed to only last a couple hours and they came back on their own.

The events are the main changing thing on the site and I can’t afford to redo all that work every time this happens. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

    Thank you,
    Jane

  • Hi Jane,

That certainly sounds unusual and isn’t something I’ve heard of before: can you confirm if you have other plugins installed? Does the same thing occur if you run with a default, unmodified theme and only our plugin?

I appreciate doing so on a live site may not be ideal, but if you are still in early development and/or can anyway do this in a testing/staging environment that could provide useful information here.

    Thanks!

    Hi Barry,

Sorry, I was without a computer for 6 days and replying via phone proved too difficult. Thanks for the reply.

Unfortunately, we’re up and running and I can’t run with a default theme because I had to do so much custom css to get it to look how I wanted, that I don’t want to risk losing it.

We only have 4 plugins including yours: MailChimp, Enhanced PayPal Shortcodes and Akismet.

I have done some custom css on some of the styles in the events area, such as changing the color of the month bar on the events home page. There’s more I’d like to change but I don’t know what selector to use in some cases. Do you think this could have caused the problem?

    Jane

I can’t really visualize CSS causing the events to actually drop from your database (if that’s what happened), though it could certainly hide them. I can appreciate it is difficult to troubleshoot on a live site – but if you can replicate this in a fresh installation of WordPress in the same environment (or a duplicate environment) we’d be happy to take a look.

It’s been a while so I’ll mark this thread as resolved – if you disagree/need further help please go right ahead and ideally create a new thread. Thanks!

    Hi Barry,

I’m sorry I let this drop. That website is a volunteer gig and I had bigger fish to fry. I’m afraid that would be too much work to try to do what you suggest.

I think I’m going to have to cross my fingers.

I posted a different question about fixing some pretty bad formatting/styling in The Events Calendar. That’s more important right now but I haven’t had a reply.

    Cheers,
    Jane
