The release notes for 19.8 mention the removal of different options for the twitter:card meta tag. They cite that Twitter only uses the large card format, but I have found this to be false both in the official Twitter documentation and my own testing.

    https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-october-11-2022/

I have a website with some pages that work better with “summary” set instead of “summary_large_image” for twitter:card. I updated to Yoast 19.8 on a staging site and our pages that use the “summary” format no longer output that meta tag properly (as noted in the patch notes).

I believe there is a mistake here. Just today, I tested a Tweet with a page with the “summary” value set, and Twitter used the smaller image card format as expected.

    Could you please help/clarify? Thanks.

    Hello @kratosgemini

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention! Indeed, in Yoast SEO 19.8, we deprecated the wpseo_twitter_card_type filter and our changelog stated, forces the twitter:card meta tag to the preferred summary_large_image value.

A bug report has been created internally so we can reintroduce/un-deprecate the filter; it is under review by our product team.

    Workaround
At this time, there is no known workaround.

    What’s next?
Our product team will assess the severity of the issue and assign a priority level to the report. Our developers work on the highest priority issues first. We cannot give you an estimate of when they’ll start working on the issue.

If you have any further information that may affect the prioritization or help our development team solve this bug, please feel invited to reply to this forum topic, and we’ll share the information with our product team.

    Hey @kratosgemini,

In Yoast SEO 19.9, released today, we reintroduced the filter so it should work as before if you were using the filter to customize your output.

I can confirm that this is fixed with Yoast 19.9. Thanks!
