Two attempts to login – is this WordPress or IIS

    Greetings everyone,

    I have finally managed to migrate my blog from a NAS device to a 2008 R2 box.

    I now have one annoying niggle left having worked through loads.

    Basically, when I log into the blog, it takes a couple of attempts, but from differing browser sessions.

    If I continually re-enter the credentials, its a waste of time.
    However, when I open up a new browser tab and enter the address of the blog it takes me in.

    So, it looks like it accepts the credentials but won’t pass me on to the next WordPress section of code (or something like that).

    I am running the blog on IIS, so maybe its an IIS issue, but I need to post the question here just in case.

    Advice appreciated !

    I have been busy on the IIS side of things, and set up IIS tracing and it looks like IIS is in the clear.

    What I now need help on is how to debug wordpress ?

    Try these steps:
    – deactivate all plugins and see if the problem persists. If it solves the problem, activate plugins one by one until you find the problematic one
    – revert to Twenty Twelve theme and see if the issue is theme-specific
    – delete any inactive plugins
    – reinstall WordPress manually from a freshly downloaded copy except wp-content. Delete files rather than overwriting.

    Use FTP or your hosting control panel if you cannot access dashboard.
    Backup your site including database so that you can restore in case anything goes wrong.

    I actually found very similar advice on the wordpress site shortly after posting.

    I am now working through the issues.
    At the moment, I suspect it is plugin related.

    Having removed Hello Dolly, my site is now open (previously it was members only) and absolute privacy is not working.

    Currently wrestling with this issue.

    Will let you know how I get on.

    OK, I think this was plugin related and ‘absolute privacy’ was the culprit.

    I removed it, reinstalled the lates version (possibly unsupported) and it was still no good.

    Tried anothe rone ‘Private Only’ and my blog is now indeed members only and logs in first time every time.
