two blogs on front page?

Hi,

I’m just setting up a new installation. I’m used to the standard wordpress configuration – but this time, I want to have essentially two blogs and some static content on the front page. Definitely, not a standard configuration.

Any suggestions re. themes and/or plug-ins that can help me set up something like this:
– one “block” with a standard blog (mine)
– another “block” with a changing list of subscriber-written content (this is a citizen journalism type site – I’m asking people to write stories, come to me for approval, and then selected ones will get promoted to a block on the home page
– some static text, a “subscribe” box, etc.
