Quick question regarding analytics post-GA4 changes.

Unfortunately we didn’t manage to migrate in time so had to follow the “complete setup” process in Google Analytics and then re-establish the connection to ExactMetrics.

For the most part everything seems fine, and I can see the analytics numbers starting to come through in the ExactMetrics dashboard and GA interface, however we somehow seem to have ended up with two GA4 data streams (with separate stream and measurement IDs).

One has a stream URL without a prefix, while the other has a stream URL with the https:// prefix

    Any thoughts on:

    • How / why this might have occurred?
    • Whether one should be deleted, and if so which? and
    • Whether deleting one of the streams carries any risk, such as loss of any data.

Sadly I’ve neglected our analytics somewhat so I’m very rusty on this stuff – so huge thanks in advance for any assistance and advice you can provide as I’d like to get this right ging forward and avoid any duplicate reporting / double counting.

    Many thanks.

    Hi?@wayfarians,

    Thanks for reaching out!

When you connect ExactMetrics to your Google Analytics property, we’ll check if there’s already a data stream that matches your WordPress Site Address (URL) exactly. If it exists, we’ll use it and send data to it. If it doesn’t exist yet, we’ll automatically create it for you with “ExactMetrics” in the label of the data stream. This is likely how you ended up with 2 data streams.

Currently, it’s not possible to choose a specific data stream to connect to as it’s all automated on our end.

If the ExactMetrics data stream is receiving data, then it means you’re tracking into your property. In this case, you can remove the extra data stream that isn’t receiving any data. To delete a stream, please follow the steps here: https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/9304776?hl=en#delete

Deleting a data stream just removes the processing of incoming data for that particular stream, and does not affect historical data.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have further questions.

    Thanks!
