Two directories, different index.html

When going into my FTP (Filezilla) I notice that I have two directories (resulting into two different websites): ldvins.com and ldvins.com/wordpress.
Obviously when I upload a new plugin on to my wordpress, it shows in the ldvins.com/wordpress but when I go to ldvins.com it doesn’t. Naturally I have two different index.html too.

I guess my problem has to do with giving WordPress its own directory. In my case, wordpress is installed in its own folder, so I guess I have to use a pre-existing subdirectory installation? I do not want two directoies.
