• My host is Bluehost (who said they can’t help me solve my problem). Today I migrated a second domain (from blogger.com to Bluehost) and placed it into a separate folder via Addon Domain feature of Bluehost. I then used WP’s Blogger Import plugin to migrate my blogger.com website to Bluehost.

All works fine but my first domain on Bluehost is now also populated with the new domains’s posts and photos, in the following:

1, In related posts, the two domain’s posts are combined
    2. In the first domain, the categories are not also populated with the second domain’s categories
    3. the media library in the first domain is now also populated withe the photos of the second domain.

For 2. and 3. the reverse aint true (so the new domain is not populated with the first domains data.

    Please help.
    Peter

If you or BlueHost has a backup of your database from prior to what you have just done, that kind of restoration should get your first site back to what it should be.

Had you first done a separate installation of WordPress for the site being moved? I am not familiar with the plugin you used, but you have apparently merged the second site into the first and that could be because it does not have a WordPress installation of its own and/or your pointing for your BlueHost add-on had not been properly done beforehand.

I first installed WP in the new addon domainon Bluehost before I migrated my website from blogger.com to WordPress in the new folder of bluehost. I carefully assured I do everything right. I then got a new WP/admin URL from where I migrated the old website .. So I don’t know what to do. Bluehost said everything at their end is fine so this is a WordPress issue ;(

Somehow that plugin you used went to the wrong place, and that could have been for any of a variety of reasons. Do you have a database backup for restoring your primary domain so you can start over with the add-on migration?

That could be the reason. My original website is still intact. Is there a better way to migrate from blogger.com to WordPress than using the WP Blogger.com plugin?

Do you not need or wish to return it to whatever state it was in prior to all of this?

Possibly, and I say that because not all servers handle add-ons in all the same ways, and because I cannot imagine any plugin being able to always sort all the particulars and do things properly in every situation. But before dealing with that, you need your two WordPress installations functioning separately and properly. In my own case, I have my BlueHost primary domain in its own folder alongside the folders for my add-ons, and I did that without having to modify *any* WordPress settings or files anywhere. I know very little about actually migrating a site, but I do think I can help you get things straight and then set up so you can try again and end up being successful.

Look at the wp-config.php file for the two sites. Is the database information the same? If so you have two sites using the same database which is a bad thing
