• Installing using Startlogic as hosting company.

I want to install WP as the main site,

https://www.domainexample.com (not a subfolder or sub dir)

I deleted all the old html files and images, public_html dir, and dropped in WordPress 2.8.4

Next I created a database (Database is on domainexample.startlogicmysql.com) and for this example i will say,
    Name: domainexample

I made wp-config.php and changed the DB name, username, and password (left localhost alone) and uploaded to the site.

Normally at this point I would load https://www.domainexample.com/wp-admin and continue the install but all i see is a ‘404-file not found’

hmm.. can anyone shed some light on this? I’m totally stumped.

I figured I’d post up the other one later. Focus on one at a time ??

I found an article about installing wordpress on startlogic maybe this will help, https://www.reviewstartlogic.com/startlogic-features/how-to-install-a-wordpress-blog-at-startlogic/ What is the actual URL to your site?

Yeah, actually that is the one decent one that I found. The frustrating thing is that I can’t find the WP Install shortcut icon in Vdeck anywhere.. it must not be there anymore or else I’m a moron. It’s up for debate!

    The domain is www(dot)edgewild(dot)com

I put the old file contents back up for now and removed WordPress so the site wasn’t “down”

Any idea why it would be doing this? It doesn’t sound like a screwy install it just seems like something isn’t updating? I don’t know..

Since I wanted WordPress on the main domain I removed the main WordPress directory. As it was sitting on the server:
    wp-admin
    wp-content
    wp-includes
(the the rest of the files)
and there was one “membership” file that would not delete without changing the permissions.

There were no other directories or files visible.

I can put it back up if you think it would help. Thanks!

Do you have all of your database info?
I’m not sure how you installed before but I would probably DL it from here and ftp it to the root directory. Then go to your url and it should run the install there.

I put wordpress back on the site so if you go to the site you will see what I mean.

dtiger, I do have all the database info. I just downloaded a second copy straight from the WordPress site too..

I see what you mean as for the 404 page. I’m not real sure since I can only see from the frontend. If you would like, go to eviewpoints(dot)com and click contact.

FWIW, I did the ‘live chat’ tech support and was instructed to go to https://edgewild(dot)startlogic(dot)com/wordpress/
    for the install.

After that I could access it at edgewild(dot)com/wordpress

Since the tech support set it up where I had temporarily placed the wordpress dir, I will have to set it up to point at the wordpress subfolder for the main domain. I wanted it on the root (as the main domain). Is there any way to do this other than by domain pointing? The main purpose for the new site is for SEO and the ability to utilize social media sites.

    Thanks!
