Two Menu Woes on Inherited Website
-
Greetings,
I have inherited responsibility for an existing website:
https://rto-pa.com
Prior to this, I would roll my own HTML code and use FileZilla to upload files to the server. See https://galactictravels.info for one of my own sites. The RTO-PA website was created using WordPress which is a new thing for me. I have successfully updated the About, Contact, and Schedule pages. That was a cinch but then I tried to tackle the Home page. Egad! I have never torn out so much hair in my life! I am cross-eyed from reading, trying, reading, guessing, trying, reading, reading, reading, trying, reading… I now come to you for some help.
I went to All Pages and, one by one, edited each existing page: About, Contact, Schedule, and Home. Edits made to the first three worked fine. Not so much the Home page. None of the edits I made would show up on the website. I am using Firefox to do all of my editing as that’s where I logged in to WordPress. I am using Safari on my iMac as a way to inspect what a visitor will see.
While editing the Home page, I used Preview Changes to see what’s what and everything looks as I expect it to look. Once happy with my edits, I clicked on Update. I then went to the Safari window, pressed refresh and saw no change what-so-ever!
After much reading, I went to Settings –> Reading and selected static page with Home selected for both From Page and Posts Page. Clicked on Sace Changes. Went to Safari and refreshed. Eureka? Not quite. The “home” page finally changed but it contained the content of the About, Contact, Schedule, and (new) Home pages in that order. So I do have the intended Home page material there, but now it’s at the bottom of a very long page that includes all of the other pages. This is as close as I have been able to come to getting what I want. I cannot seem to alter the “default” home page or get the intended home page (as listed in the All Pages tab) to display all by itself.
I now beg your help.
Cheers,
Bill
