• Hi. I’m not sure if these are MMM issues, or if they are related to the theme, but since it is foremost a display issue with the menus, I’m starting here. I am using the Theme Evolve Version: 4.0.2, I am using MMM just updated to Version 2.5.3.1 (12/13/18) and am using WordPress 4.9.9, I have NOT updated to 5.0.1 – yet, I would like to make sure everything is compatible before I update. I am also running the following Plugins:
Contact Form 7 – Version 5.0.5 (have not updated yet to 5.1)
Easy WP SMTP – Version 1.3.7
    SiteOrigin CSS – Version 1.2.3

First, I am having problems with the drop-down menu on the left hand side. Please see the link and look at the left hand blue Menu box. The box is displaying both the “Home” page (in this case I have only added two main level pages: Anencephaly and Conjoined Twins.) Under each page, the submenu displays without hovering over it, please see the top menu under “Articles” and “Stories”, the drop-down menus ONLY display when you hover over one of the menu items. The top menu displays correctly (on a laptop, but NOT on a mobile device, which is the second issue.) Can you please let me know how to fix the drop-down menus on the left hand side so they ONLY display the submenus when you hover over them?

Second, as mentioned above, the menus are NOT displaying correctly at all on my ipad or iphone. The top menu bar drop-down submenus COMPLETELY cover the page (there are a LOT of submenus) and the page cannot be seen or read because the menus cover the entire page! Can you please help?

If this is an issue with the theme, please let me know so I can post to the Evolve theme support forum. IF you can PLEASE take a look and see if you can offer any assistance to fix these issues, I would greatly appreciate it.

    Hi Coleen,

    Thanks for providing a link.

Your main/top menu (the blue one you are having problems with) is not using MMM, it looks like it is your standard theme menu, so you will need to ask your theme authors for help with these issues.

Thanks, but, yes I AM using the MMM menu, I just changed the color of it in my CSS. But I will post about the top menu on the evolve support forums.

What about the menu in my left hand sidebar? That IS most definitely using MMM, and it DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY! How do I get the submenus to ONLY display when clicked on or hovered over?

I’ve double checked and YES my site IS using the MMM plugin. Here is a link to the screen shot I just took showing that I am using the MMM plugin.

    Hi Coleen,

I can see from the screenshot that you do have MMM installed, but you do not have it enabled for the top menu (nor the side menu). Both your top and side menus are controlled by your theme:

The free version of MMM supports horizontal menus only, so it is not suitable to use in a sidebar, so you would also need to ask your theme authors about that menu.

Okay, now it’s enabled. How do I change the colors back to the blue I had?

I have (had already done this) changed all the background colors in the general, Mega, Flyout, and Custom styling to use the blue background color, saved it and it STILL doesn’t work. How do I change it?

    Hi Coleen,

I am now seeing MMM enabled on the main menu, with what looks like the correct styling:

I can see you have “Remove query strings from static resources” enabled on your site, maybe using a plugin. This setting will prevent MMM from being able to automatically tell your browser to load an updated copy of the menu CSS each time you change the theme, so you will need to manually clear your browser cache each time you make changes to the menu theme (it is much better to re-enable query strings on static resources, as WordPress relies on them to tell browsers when assets have been updated).

    Hi Megmenu, thank you.

I have cleared my cache, and the colors do now match what I have my menu settings as, but I guess I’m not understanding what/where I need to disable the setting of “Remove query strings from static resources” – the link you sent doesn’t show me anything from doing an “Inspect” (which I do regularly to check my CSS and HTML) so I’m sorry but I’m not understanding what/where I need to change that. IF you could let me know what you are referring to, I would greatly appreciate it so I can get this fixed correctly.

I do appreciate your assistance very much, it does look like the menu is now working correctly on my iPad, so that is very helpful, thank you.

    Hi Coleen,

The “remove query strings from static resources” option is usually an option within an optimisation or (maybe) caching plugin. If you do not have any of them installed then it may be some functionality built directly into your theme.

Once you are happy with your menu it does not matter too much, it is just something to remember if you make further changes to your menu theme in the future (you will need to manually clear your browser cache to see those changes).
