• Hi everyone

I have a WP site which is running on Nimble theme and version 3.6 of WordPress.

    First question:

Up the top it says: WordPress 4.2.2 is available! Please notify the site administrator. I am she and I cannot see how to update automatically. There is no Dashboard > Updates menu. So where is it and how do I update?

    Second question.

I want to change the theme but I dont see the usual Appearance > Themes in the sidebar menu either.

What do I need to do to install a new theme please?

    Cheers

    Rosemary

I am she and I cannot see how to update automatically. There is no Dashboard > Updates menu. So where is it and how do I update?

    – Try MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

    – Important: Since your current version 3.6 of WordPress is relative old, consider incremental updating. For example 3.6 – 3.8 – 4.0 – 4.2.2

    – Its hard to say why. BecauseI am not familiar with your current theme.
    – The theme you referred to is not in the WordPress official theme directory:
    – For questions regarding this, please contact its developers. You’ll be more likely to find a good answer from them, for they have the access to its code. Forum volunteers are not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why your commercial theme or plugin is not working properly. The vendors are responsible for supporting their commercial product. These forums are for free themes available in the WordPress theme directory at www.ads-software.com/themes/. See https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Forum_Welcome#Commercial_Products
    – If you can’t auto update then try manually updating. Have a read of this guide: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Using_Themes#Adding_New_Themes_Manually_.28FTP.2

Unfortunately, no, you are not ‘she’ ??

If you are seeing that notice, it means your log in role is not Administrator. This is also why you are not seeing the Appearance > Themes nor Dashboard > Updates.

You will need to either contact the person whose login role is set to Administrator or change this within the database, if you have access to it.

It is my site. Im happy to lose everything on there because it hasnt been used much.

Can I do something thru the cpanel? – the place I most dislike ??

I would prefer to start again because Im not a techie and the steps youve outlines Tara are just a bridge too far for me.

So, is there a way I can reclaim my site, wipe it clean and instll WP again?

Thank you Tara and Lyle for responding.

Thank you to all who have contributed to my thread.

I have reclaimed my website; long story but it involved failed emails and Twitter and now I am the Administrator.

    Now to my next problem.

I want to install a Theme that wont let me access the download, and the administrator is not answering my emails. When I login the download site says:

    You are temporarily locked out

You have been temporarily locked out of this system. This means that you will not be able to sign-in or use several other features that may compromise security. Please try back in a short while.

    etc. etc

How can I override this message and access my code?

    Hi rosieb

I have the same issue as you had resolved, ie, I am the administrator to my site, but am receiving the same “WordPress 4.3 is available! Please notify the site administrator.”, messages as you had, and am unable to update anything. The first time this message occurred, it was back at WordPress 4.2.1.

Can you please explain how you fixed your issue, please. There may also be others that could benefit from your experience too.

LyleB, I would appreciate understanding which database you are referring to in your advice.

I wish I could help with your new issue, but I am not experienced enough.

    My site is https://www.partyfoodmelbourne.com.

    Thanks and cheers, Jenn
