    Hello,

Adam from Podcast 2pady.pl here. For some time now I was aware there exist two different ways to see our podcast’s feed, with two different URLs:

    (1) /?feed=podcast
    (2) /feed/podcast

The (2) is a default for SSP, so when we put our podcast on Spotify two weeks ago, it was the URL I set there. Until now most apps used the (1), though. Not sure why, but probably it’s a URL set in our iTunes account (which I still need to verify, as I don’t have direct control over it).

Around the same time something changed (and I’m not sure if that was one of my changes in RSS generation file, plugin update or something else) and our latest episode, 268 to be exact, was not showing up outside Spotify. It turned out it’s because (1) is mostly empty. It has information about podcast, but no “items” inside. Not sure if that was always the case, but probably no, as now it looks like the feed is invalid and it wasn’t before. From apps I checked, only Player FM shows notification that the last successful connection with RSS was one week ago. Others, like Podcast Addict, iTunes or Pocket Casts simply don’t show up the latest episode (but I guess they probably don’t show up anything for people, who never had our podcast subscribed).

So the first thing I’m most interested in right now is to find a reason, why (1) stopped updating. I could inform listeners that (2) works, but that would split subscribers between two options and still, the ones using (1) are currently in the dark, as they don’t even see new episodes.

After resolving that I would like to know where (1) comes from, is it also a part of SSP or something else entirely? And finally, when everything will work again, I would like to try and get rid of (1) completely, to have just one feed URL everywhere, preferably with moving current subscribers to the (2) seamlessly.

Thank you in advance for any help,
    Cheers!

  • Heya, I was about to pull my hair out before I realized that having selected “episodic” or “serial” under show type in feed settings borked our RSS feed (the new one that was created /feed/podcast as well as the old one /?feed=podcast )

As a last ditch I ran it thru https://validator.w3.org/feed/ which pointed out that itunes type was the problem. The weird part was that the iTunes validator itself wasn’t catching this, it was just not updating…

Not sure if this would fix the issue you’re working on, but it is something fast and easy to check. And it may help someone else here.

I had a rough, discouraging week because of this and hope to help someone else avoid this!

Hi there. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this but in general we don’t use the w3c.org feed validator as it’s a bit outdated and not a podcast specific RSS feed validator.

When we’re troubleshooting feeds internally we use both podba.se and castfeedvalidator.com as they both show slightly different information about your show.

But generally the feed that you want to use is the “mysite.com/feed/podcast” for the default feed that SSP creates, and if you have Series active on your site then it would be mysite.com/feed/podcast/series-slug

Hope that helps and if we can do anything else to help just let us know.
