Two Sitemaps

    Hi there,

    Thanks for the great plugin. For some reason, the plugin now seems to be creating two standard XML sitemaps on my site. One is at /sitemap_index.xml and the other is at /sitemap.xml.

    How do I fix this so that there is only one? Thanks!

  • Hi, the next release will have this fixed ??

    In the mean time: there is no harm in two sitemaps. Just only submit the one on /sitemap.xml to your Search Console (if you have an account there)

    Hi Ravan,

    Thanks for your reply! Do you know when the next release will be? I only have one of the sitemaps added to the Search Console, however Google is still spending crawl resources to scan both sitemaps, so this is a significant issue for my company.

    To work around it you could add a redirect rule in your htaccess or with the Redirect plugin.

    Rule for your .htaccess (replace https://www.yoursite.com with your site URL):

    
Redirect 301 /sitemap_index.xml https://www.yoursite.com/sitemap.xml
