You could do that sort of thing in a theme with the clever use of calls to wp_list_categories.

The top bar would be a call using the depth=1 parameter, to only show the top level cats.

The next bar would require getting the current category ID using get_query_var(‘cat’), and then using the child_of parameter to only show the children of that category.

Both of these would then come out as UL LI lists, which you would style using display:inline and such to make them into horizontal bars.

Thanks to all you for helping. As far as plugins are concerned, i feel only dtabs is the plugin which do what i have in mind… the difference in this plugin is that it shows a vertical drops down menu and not horizontal one … i will be looking into it and customizing it for my menu.

umair, did you figure out a solution for this? Daniel Hoyt has explanation of how to do this with PHP, I’m wondering if you found a plugin solution?
