    I would want to implement:

    a) tag families. E.g. a tag “science” can be the general topic science or the magazine science. If I would like my visitor on visiting the tag page “science” to present a list with ambiguous tags then i would need to be able to relate them in a family. [next step is to then make one tag primary if possible or present the user with the list so he can choose]

    b) tag redirect. E.g. if a tag has a certain name but there are other names that mean the same thing and are used as well in the weblog I would like to refer those tags directly the tag that actually covers the meaning the most.

I have posted a diagram of what I would want here: https://edward.de.leau.net/proposal-for-tag-handling-in-wordpress-for-tags-that-mean-different-things-20081102.html

–> has anyone done this before
–> is this possible with the current WordPress TERM TAXONOMY database model?

    Thank you,

    Edward de Leau

Why not use categories and subcategories for this?

It’s the same question a and b for categories. They are a taxonomy term too.
