  • Depending on the problem, this might help… Theme Fix

I now have 38 client sites that do not work after the latest upgrade. REALLY bad for business!!! All I get is a series of question marks at the top of the pages, nothing else, can’t get into the Admin area either. I have to go in and disable the plugin from cPanel, but now I have 38 sites that have no Photo gallery….

    HELP!!!!!!

me too. my site is down and i wouldn’t know how to disable the plugin from cpanel.

I have the same problem. I get Mandarin characters and all sorts of ascii characters. I think this has a conflict with WP 4.8 update.

This version sucks. Some sites have broken completely and giving just a row of ‘?’ and others have stopped working because Page Templates are not recognised!

How do I get a zip of the previous version?

Hey all, CEO of Imagely here. Just a quick note that we’re looking at this now, and we’ll push a fix for at least one set of issues within an hour.

For those who are having theme styling, white screen, or fatal error issues, you can follow the fix here with line 273: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/v2-2-8-breaks-twenty-seventeen-design/

We’ll be pushing that fix shortly. For those with ??? or Mandarin characters, being displayed, could one of you email us at [email protected], and if open to it, share your site’s login data so we can see the issue?

One important point I want to emphasize: our entire team is unable to duplicate any of the issues in this or related threads. We have five people trying all kinds of things. So whatever is going on here, it’s happening in some kind of very specific conditions that we haven’t yet identified.

For now, we just know that removing line 273 seems to resolve many issues, so we’re going to do that. But it won’t affect ??? or odd characters showing. For that, we still haven’t been able to duplicate, and haven’t gotten access to a site that has the issue so we can fix it.

I’ll update again if there are changes.

Hey all – we just pushed 2.2.9. When folks get a chance, can you update and confirm whether your issues are fixed?

This removes a line of code that was causing some rending issues with some themes, and also some fatal errors under very specific conditions we couldn’t duplicate.

As far as we know, it will not fix those seeing question marks or odd characters. If you update and still see those characters, we still don’t have access to any single site with the issue. So if you could contact us at [email protected] with your site url and, ideally, login credentials, that would help us resolve your issue.

    Thanks!

I don’t know if that will fix the problem for everyone. I tried deleting line 273 as someone else suggested and it didn’t help my site. Could only get it functional again after rolling back to a previous version of nextgen, so reluctant to try this revisi N until others report success.

@markwebstar – thanks for following up. Sounds like the line 273 fix didn’t work for you. Just to confirm, can you tell us any more about your symptoms? Did you just have a white screen?

Hey all – just an update. We’ve now released 2.2.10 in the last few minutes which resolves the issue for those above seeing question marks (?????) on the screen.

This is in addition to the 2.2.9 release earlier today.

Thanks, upgrading to 2.2.10 had fixed the 2.2.8’s ????????????? problems.

@edanzer Thanks for following up. I’m not sure if I’ll have chance to check 2.2.10 today but will let you know if it works or not.

Regarding the error – after installing 2.2.8 all i could see on my domain https://www.thevisiblepress.com was a single line of ????????????? that stretched far to the right beyond the width of a browser window. I couldn’t see the homepage, the wp-admin page or any other pages hosted on the domain.

My workaround was to use cpanel to disabel Nextgen by renaming it, then the site what working as normal, but without gallery images. Then I was able to download a previous version, 2.2.3 from https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/nextgen-gallery/advanced/ which ran okay and brought things back to how they were.

@markwebstar – yup, the issue you had with the ???? should now be fixed.

For those curious, the issue with the question marks would only have occurred on hosting platforms that doesn’t have PHP compiled with libxml. Libxml is used by most hosting companies by default, which is why we never saw it on our side.

libxml is a bit beyond my understanding, but the site with the problem is on Namecheap shared hosting. Their knowledge base at https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/9697/2219/php-modules-and-extensions-on-shared-hosting-servers states :-

“libxml: these functions/constants are available as of PHP 5.1.0, and the following core extensions rely on this libxml extension: DOM, libxml, SimpleXML, SOAP, WDDX, XSL, XML, XMLReader, XMLRPC and XMLWriter.”

My cPanel identifies the PHP version as 5.3.29

I can confirm that another wordpress site I have on another host (UK2) is working fine on 2.2.8 and 2.2.10.
