• I installed the orbisius plugin and created a child theme. There was no functions.php that was imported in the child theme available for me to add code to so I just created the file.

After creating the file, I entered code to in that file and saved and now I get this: Uh-oh, something went wrong! Error Code: 500
everytime I try to access my site!!

I cant get in at all I just want to go back before the child theme but don’t believe there’s backups…

  • Sounds like you introduced an error in your child theme’s functions.php file. Try checking your site’s error logs for a more specific error message to see if you can locate the issue. Your hosts should be able to help you accessing your site’s error logs.

For now, try switching to the default theme by renaming your child theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Shaunrafuse, Did you click on Check Syntax before saving?
Note to self: I have to make this on by default.

If you’ve checked the FAQ of the Child Theme Creator you’ll find a link to theme fixer.

First time using a child theme or anything, I’ve been doing the modifications solely through the custom CSS Manger without the need to use FTP or cPanel..

I’ve downloaded FileZilla but not sure what to enter for the credentials (Host:,Username:,Password:,Port:)..

Kind of stuck there at the moment…

Ok got it!! Thank you esmi/orbisius really appreciate it!

Shaunrafuse, you can use the Editors within the Child Theme Creator.
They in the WP Admin > Appearance
