    Hello,
I am having some issues using the search/filter option within UM. I have 2 types of profiles one as a customer and one as a tradesman and currently the tradesman have to enter lots of info to their profile like industry location etc as part of the registration form. But i want the users to then be able to edit that information further down the line so i have also added the same criteria to the profile forms.. My issue is 2 fold
    * Now when users update information when they hit update it does nothing
    * the search/filter does nothing and infact does not even display the filter options.

Where is the best place to have all the criteria as the registration/profile forms or both?

  • Registration form is different from Profile page.
Information in Profile will only be shown in Profile views.

Rest of the question is unclear to me. Filters options are available in Members Directory.

    Hi @thebeardedguy,

Please attach the screenshot of your form and form fields.
This issue can be due to some conflicts with your theme or one of your plugins.
Please do a quick conflict test by disabling all plugins except Ultimate member and switch to the default theme and see if this issue goes away.

    Regards.

    Thanks for your message
Attached is a screen shot of the profile form i actually stripped the registration form down to try to identify a conflict. But before the search used to work fine then once i tried to add the same criteria into the profile to allow them to change it it has since broken
In an effort to try and answer beardedguy’s question, i initially had the criteria in the registration form for age, location, body type, hair colour etc etc lots of which can and will change. I therefor wanted to allow the member the ability to update their profile when they change their hair colour for example. At the initial stage where criteria was entered at the registration stage the search feature was fine, but when i tried to build the profile forms to include the same criteria i.e. hair colour using the same Meta Key name it began to fail. So now it is at the stage where if you update an aspect of the profile i.e. hair colour hit submit it does nothing and equally when i go to the members directory search page no filters show up despite being configured.

unable to add attachment – tempted to delete the plugin and just start over with some testing before building the forms up..

Ultimately is it possible to have the same information in the registration form accessible and editable in the profile form? Which i can then allow for the built in search and filter ability..
Or should i just have the registration form be basic username, password, email and then have the additional information completed on the profile form?

Yes, you can add fields in the Profile Form so users can continue adding their details as a good User Experience. Adding some fields in the Registration form will keep your potential users bored known as a Bad User Experience.
