    Dear Yoast team

Currently, the umlaut in an organisation’s name does not show up in markups as an umlaut. For example, ü appears as \u00fc. This has led to google not displaying site names with umlaut in its mobile search results to the right of favicon.

Would you be able to fix this issue in a future update?

    Very truly yours

@prestonwordsworth Can you please confirm you are using the most recent Yoast v15.1.1? You can learn more about updating here: https://kb.yoast.com/kb/how-can-i-update-my-free-plugin/

Also, can you please clarify where in the markup the sitename when using an umlaut is showing as \u00fc ? Can you please provide a screenshot of the markup, or provide an example URL so that we can check the issue further?

@devnihil Many thanks for your reply. Yes, I can confirm we are using the latest version of yoast.

I am not allowed to disclose our url, but here is the relevant snippet:

    <script type=”application/ld+json” class=”yoast-schema-graph”>{“@context”:”https://schema.org&#8221;,”@graph”:[{“@type”:”Organization”,”@id”:”url”,”name”:”M\u00fcnchen”…

I have substituted our sitename with the word München, but I think you would be able to replicate the issue using any words containing ü.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Very truly yours

Thanks for sharing the relevant information with us. We understand that when the organization name includes ü, Yoast SEO encodes the relevant character to \u00fc in the schema markup and as such, Google mobile search results showing the wrong name.

We also understand that you are not allowed to disclose the URL of your website. So, we have tested the issue on our end and were able to reproduce it. However, when testing the relevant schema markup by using the Google Structured Data Testing Tool, we can confirm that it can decodes the relevant character ü correctly as expected. So, Google shouldn’t have any issues at all to display the correct organization name in the search results.

However, if you still think that it’s an issue specific to the schema markup generated by Yoast SEO that encodes the ü character to \u00fc, we recommend you please share a screenshot by hiding the URLs so that we can look into this further for you.

@mazedulislamkhan Many thanks for your detailed response and for being willing to work with the limited information we provided.

You explanations have been really helpful. We, too, can confirm that Google’s rich results test decodes our ü correctly, and will continue monitoring the issue.

Would it be possible by any chance for you to point us to some websites using yoast that have mobile sitenames with umlaut?

Unfortunately, we are unable to provide you that information at the moment as we don’t store any such reference on our own.
