Un-attach media file

  • I have to vent my frustration a bit here.

    WP is getting huge and it’s the preferred WCM for web development.

    But still it lacks a proper file / media system.

    I mean, how is it possible that you can attach a media file to a post, but no to un-attach the same media file?

    And why can’t the same media file be attached to multiple posts?

    Just the idea / concept of that an uploaded file is treated like a normal post (just having post-type: media (or something like that)) is just not right.

    Does anyone know if there is a better media library on the way to WP or do one have to use some sort of plugin?

    (Eight months later) I’m totally with you.

    That a a devloper has to go and make a plugin for fundamental function like “de/un-attach” (instead of completely deleting) is kind of weird…
