Hi, I am new to WordPress and have never had a website before. I just installed WordPress using Fantastico with HostGator. Following the installation, I was notified that I could access the admin area at https://babymonitorreviews.ca/wp-admin/. I was given a username and password, but when I go to this site, a default page appears, but I cannot access WordPress and am not able to enter the username and pw. If anybody can provide some guidance on how I can get into the admin area, I would really appreciate it.

  • What you have there is a Instant Page from Go Daddy.

Do you have an account there as well as HostGator? Did you get your domain from GD and hosting at HG?

Yes, my domain is from GD and hosting is with HG.

Check with Hostgator. The support team will provide the DNS settings which you have to do in your GoDaddy DNS management tool.

Log into your HG cPanel. In the left side bar, toward the bottom in Account Information, you will find your HG Nameservers. They will be something like:

    nsxxxx.hostgator.com
    nsxxxy.hostgator.com

    Copy these.

Log into your GD account and launch Domains.

    – click on the domain name babymonitorreviews.ca
    – Domain Settings > Nameservers > click Manage
    – in the pop up, select Custom
    – click the link Enter custom nameservers
    – enter the two nameservers from HG into the two boxes provided (do not click Add Nameserver) then click OK
    – wait ?? … could be a while too … up to 48 hours for the nameserver change to propagate.

Generally though, in my experience, it takes only an hour or so with this exact set up. However, I have noticed that .ca domains take a bit longer. Also note that if you try “early”, it may work and then will quit working; this is normal. Be patient ??

Thank you so much for your help! I followed all these steps and can now access the admin login page! ??

Although when I tried using the username and password provided, I could not login. I tried to reset the password and received a message that an e-mail was sent, but I cannot find which e-mail account is associated with the WP account. I tried the Go Daddy e-mail, the Host Gator e-mail and the personal e-mail account that I used to sign up with HG. For all these e-mails, I receive a message on the WP admin site that there is no registered user with any of those e-mail addresses. If anybody has any other ideas or knows how I can change the e-mail, I will give it a try.

The email account that is used for the WP installation that you made using Fantastico on your HG account is the one YOU entered during the install process as the Admin email :

You say that you can access the admin log in page now but can’t log in with the credentials provided by the Fantastico installer? But then you mention that you receive a message on the “WP admin site” … which is this one? ??

If you still can’t log in (or remember what values you entered for the admin user name and password during the Fantastico install process ?? ), then you may want to go through this:

    https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Resetting_Your_Password

Personally, I would use the phpMyAdmin method but as mentioned, do so at your own risk ?? Mind you, as this is a fresh install, there is not much “to lose”; if it goes pear shaped, just remove it (using Fantasitco) and start again.

Hi, thanks again for your help. I took your advice and went with the phpMyAdmin method. Everything worked out and I finally logged into the admin site for the first time : ) Thanks for taking the time to help me out!
