• I’ve completely lost the plot and have no idea what to do next, any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have the following site that I help out with for a friend; https://riacohenfamilylaw.com

I recently updated WP and all the plugins and template but it seriously screwed things up. So off I went and restored the backup I took just before updating it all. (I host this site myself too).

The problem is now though that I get an error page when trying to acess the admin area.

Can anyone tell me how on earth I go about putting things right?

    Many thanks!

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If none of those work, would you please quote the error you’re seeing?

    Fantastic, thank you James!

    Deactivating the theme has worked!

However… Now I have another problem!

The original theme I used was so out of date that when I did update everything the entire site went out of whack.

It was such a long time ago but I remember that I edited the style sheets in WP to get everything to work, do you know if it’s possible to retrieve the original information so I can paste it back in again?

    (Keeping my fingers crossed!)

Dammit! I’ve just deactivated the theme again and now I can’t log into the dashboard again! ??

Deactivate it manually again, then from Appearance -> Themes -> Add New, install and activate the Twenty Sixteen theme for now.

What is the name of the problem theme, and where did you get it from?
