Wordpress just sent me an e-mail saying that All-in-one-Seo-Pack is causing a major problem with my site and I can’t access my WordPress Dashboard. The error is “public_html/wp-content/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/modules/aioseop_sitemap.php. Error message: Out of memory (allocated 40108032) (tried to allocate 32768 bytes)”
I can get to my site through recovery mode, but not get into any of the Dashboard areas, though they are listed above my main page and it shows me as logged in in recovery mode. I can get into my files via FTP or through my ISP.
Is there anything I can do on the file side to fix this. I tried renaming the plug in and could edit the offending file if that would help.
There appear to be no problems on ISP side. And I recently updated all my plug-ins and theme and WordPress is the latest version.

The problem isn’t necessarily All in One SEO Pack itself, that’s just the plugin that was currently running when PHP ran out of memory.

However, we can try to reduce the memory that All in One SEO Pack uses.

You’ll want to switch the XML Sitemap settings to enable (check) “Enable Sitemap Indexes” and lower the “Maximum Posts Per Sitemap Page” to 1000 at the most, or even lower. Then find “Exclude Images” and check it. Then click Update Sitemap.

I realize you can’t get to your dashboard yet to do this. In order to get access to your dashboard, rename the entire “plugins” directory to deactivate every plugin. Once you’ve gained access to your dashboard, go ahead and rename it back. Then activate All in One SEO Pack, and make the above changes.

Then, enable each plugin one by one.

I think you are correct. I found another plug-in with the same problem. I think I will need to ask my ISP to increase my memory for PHP. What would be reasonable if you know? This is a non-profit site that includes a booking function but it is not a large site with lots of traffic.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Unfortunately that’s not an exact science. Every site is different.
You could also try trimming some non-essential plugins, or switching to a different theme. (Official themes like Twenty Nineteen, etc generally are pretty low resource.)
Flashy themes tend to consume a lot of resources.

Did you try my suggestions for AIOSEOP above?

I’ve put in a request to my ISP. And I do use an official theme, but it may be the Bookings plug-in which is the only potentially high resource thing on the website but essential. Thanks for your help.

I have this same exact problem, however even if I deactivate all plugins I cannot reactivate all in one. Any suggestions as to what to do next?

I am having the same issue.

Please describe the exact issue you’re having, and what versions of All in One SEO Pack and WordPress you’re using, and whether you recently updated anything (such as WordPress or All in One SEO Pack).

Increasing my memory solved my problems.

I cannot increase my memory. My dashboard was inaccessible after trying to update to the latest version of All in one. The only way to get back in was to remove the plugin. And each time I reactivate I’m shut out, even with all plugins disabled.

Hi Michael, I’ve just sent the message, thank you!

In case this helps anyone else – To increase my memory, I got the codes from my ISP and added it to my php.ini and my wp-config.php files. I got to these files thorough my ftp program (FileZilla), downloaded them, edited them and then uploaded them back to my site.

But Petluck, this may not be your problem and I am sure that Michael will be able to figure it out.

Thanks for the tips on increasing memory. You can find instructions on this here: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Editing_wp-config.php#Increasing_memory_allocated_to_PHP

We’d like to know though why this is an issue in the first place so we can fix it for other users. AIOSEOP shouldn’t be consuming a lot of memory.
