• I am a new “Webmaster” for a non-for-profit club and I recently did an update with Word Press…it is likely that nothing had been done to the site in quite a while. Once I did the updates, I was unable to access my log in page and the site is down.

How do I log in to fix whatever error might be there…I am assuming that it was a problem with themes and I would like to undo whatever update caused the error?

    Thanks!

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Thank you for the response and please excuse my ignorance but how and where am I downloading the phpMyAdmin in order to try to deactivate plugins? This is all brand new to me and other than writing the blog, I have no idea how to do anything you just described.

You’ll find phpMyAdmin in your hosting account’s control panel, you don’t need to download anything.

    You mean WordPress.com? www.ads-software.com doesn’t do hosting.

Well I guess that is problem number 1 then…I inherited this task from a non-for-profit group and it seems no one knows anything about the site and nothing had been done with it for 2 years so I was told Word Press is the host…how can I find out who the host actually is.

What a mess I have gotten myself into!

Run the site through this tool: https://who.is/
It should tell you who the host is
