• “performance-lab” has been deactivated, WordPress.com automatically handles caching and database optimization for your site.

I’ve installed the plugin but when I try to activate it, it doesn’t work and gives me the above error.

I uploaded the plug in manually because when I go to ‘add new plugin’ and search for it, it shows up as Not Supported.. What does that mean?

    Thanks for reaching out @wancolawyers.

There are a number of reasons why your site may not meet the requirements of the plugin, including your WordPress version (6.5), your PHP version (7.2 or higher) or something else. If you wish to share your Site Health information I can see if I can spot anything unusual.

Actually, it seems like WordPress.com has special logic in place to deactivate the Performance Lab plugin when it is activated. This is surprising. I’ll reach out to them to get clarification.

Alternatively, you could try installing the standalone plugins that the Performance Lab plugin installs. The Performance Lab plugin is primarily an entrypoint to discover the specific feature plugins that we develop:

I’d be very eager to learn if WordPress.com also prevents installing any of these. @wancolawyers Could you check?

Also, which WordPress.com hosting plan is this? The Business plan?

Also, the Performance Lab plugin suite does not do any caching or database optimization. So this seems like a case where WordPress.com incorrectly added the plugin to a deny list.
