Unable to add and remove users or plugins

    Am currently unable to add, update, or delete plugins, and am unable to add or remove users. I did not take any actions to prompt this change to my knowledge.

    I am able to publish content to the site normally. I can add, edit, and delete posts, pages, and custom posts.

    So far, in my attempts to correct the admin problem, I have deleted and uploaded a fresh version of my wp-admin directory, in case something corrupted over there was causing the problem. That had no effect.

    Has anyone else had this problem on 3.5.2? What did you do to fix it?

    Yes. Admin on a single-site installation.

    What happens when you try to manage plugins? Can you see the plugins menu?

    Normally, reinstating an admin account is pretty easy.

    You go in via mySQL, pop open the wp_usermeta table, find your ID, and toss this in for meta_value for wp_capabilities: a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;}

    That won’t restore all the roles, if you happen to be using Role Scoper, or some other management tool, but if you’ve got that, you can do anything.

    @mindctrl: I can see the plugins menu, and in it, I can activate and deactivate plugins, but I am unable to delete plugins, and I can’t add new plugins. Additionally, the notification for the new version of WordPress says, “WordPress 3.6 is available! Please notify the site administrator.” rather than asking me to perform the upgrade.

    @ipstenu: I made your modification, and unfortunately, it had no effect. The original string there was a:1:{s:13:”administrator”;s:1:”1″;} and I set it back to that after discovering that the changed setting had no effect.

    If you go to Users > All Users it shows your Role as Administrator? If so, that’s just weird. If not, that’s your issue.

    You could also try a database repair by following the instructions here.

    You could try replacing the wp-includes folder too, since you replaced the wp-admin.

    Your web host might have some insight into the problem.
