Unable to add descrition to gallery thumbnails

Neither the WordPress default galleries nor Jetpack’s Tiled Galleries will display image descriptions in your galleries. These descriptions are mostly meant to be used on attachment pages, or in Jetpack’s Carousel.

If you’d like to display information under the images’ thumbnails, you will indeed need to use captions, not descriptions.

I’m already using captions, but would like to have a second field display besides the caption. If displaying the description isn’t possible, might displaying the title be easier?

Note:I tried to change the code for the galleries (I’m really a novice in terms of php) and the page just returns a message saying that Jetpack gallery has been disabled because it is being overriden by another shortcode.

I’m afraid Jetpack’s Tiled Galleries do not include a way to inject elements below the caption, inside the gallery view.

We get the value directly from your database, so you won’t be able to edit it before it’s added to the gallery either.

Your only solution would be to edit the Jetpack plugin files directly, which I would not recommend since your changes would then be overwritten next time you update the plugin.

Another alternative would be to switch to the default WordPress gallery instead. You will then be able to hook into that gallery and customize it, as you’ve mentioned.

OK, I understand.
I’m already using Jetpack galleries for another gallery and would like to keep using it there. Is there a way to only disable it for that one page where I’d like to add the extra field?
