• I am creating a new website, using the Vantage theme. I was unable to automatically update to WordPress 4.4.1, and instead did it using filezilla. But although it said it installed successfully, my ‘add to menu’ button is not working.

When I try to add items to the menu, nothing happens – the little icon just keeps on circling to show that it’s ‘busy’.

According to suggestions on previous posts about this issue, I should check whether it’s the theme or plugin causing the problem. But I’ve tried different themes, as well as disabling my plugins, and the problem persists – I still cannot add menu items.

    Any advice please?

Try here at the designated support sub-forum of that theme: https://www.ads-software.com/support/theme/vantage

Thanks Tara, I’ll try that, but what worries me is that even when I tried changing to the 2015 theme, I still could not add menu items. I wondered whether it may be a problem with my WordPress installation.

    could be.

try a few basic troubleshooting steps:
    – Flushing any caching plugins you might be running, as well as server and/or browser caches.
    – deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to see if this resolves the problem (plugin functions can interfere). If this works, re-activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin(s).
    – If that does not resolve the issue, try switching to the unedited default Twenty Fifteen theme WITH ALL PLUGINS OFF.
    – If all the above steps do not resolve the issue, then try MANUAL updating. Download a fresh copy of the WordPress .zip file to your computer, unzip it, and use that to copy up all files and folders EXCEPT the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory. You may need to delete the old copies of files & folder on your server before uploading the new ones. Read the Manual Update directions first.
If you haven’t already done, always backup everything (including your database) before doing any actions, just in case something really goes wrong.

Thanks so much for the suggestions, will try all of them…
