Unable to change image size using Gutenberg image block

I have images in a sub-folder of the uploads folder. When I use that image in a Gutenberg image block, I cannot change the image size from the default “Large”. Also, the image rendered does not use the “srcset” attribute.

If I use an image in the uploads folder, then the Gutenberg image block works as intended.

UPDATE: I did “Regenerate Thumbnails” and that seemed to resolve the issue, but I’m not sure why I had to do that. I am marking this issue as resolved for now.
